Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Structural Engineering

Structural Focus has provided structural engineering for many of Southern California's most recognizable venues, spanning new state-of-the-art performing arts centers and historic theaters dating back a century or more. Our portfolio includes the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, the Egyptian Theatre, the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and Chapman University’s Sandi Simon Center for Dance.

Theater projects succeed through close collaboration with theater consultants, acousticians, architects, and MEP teams from the earliest design stages, when structural decisions have the greatest influence on acoustic performance and operational flexibility. Every element, from stage house framing and fly lofts to balcony cantilevers and rigging catwalks, must work in concert with strict acoustic, lighting, and audience-safety requirements.

We detail slab edges, wall assemblies, and roof framing with sound and vibration isolation in mind, and coordinate loads for rigging, catwalks, and stage equipment so everything above and around the house performs as the production team intends.

Engineer a Venue Built for Performance

From new performing arts centers to the careful restoration of historic theaters, Structural Focus delivers structural engineering that supports both the performance and the place.
