Structural Engineering for Agensys Laboratory

Laboratories demand more from a structure than almost any other building type. They house vibration-sensitive equipment, intricate cleanroom and containment systems, and dense mechanical infrastructure that must work in precise coordination with the building itself.

Our team works closely with architects, lab planners, MEP engineers, and specialty consultants from day one. Early coordination is essential: the placement of every shear wall, brace, and floor system must accommodate the dense web of utilities, fume hoods, and equipment above and below. Through enhanced seismic performance objectives, vibration criteria for sensitive instrumentation, and advanced lateral systems, we protect the science inside and leave room for the facility to evolve as research priorities change.

We pair resilience and sustainability in our work. Protecting a research facility and the work happening inside it is one of the most meaningful contributions structural engineering can make. A defining project for our team is Agensys Laboratories in Santa Monica, a 160,000-SF LEED Silver campus for a cancer research and pharmaceutical firm, where we designed three steel-framed buildings to enhanced seismic performance objectives using buckling restrained braces.
