We believe the structural engineer's role continues beyond construction and that preplanning for disaster is one of the most meaningful investments a building owner can make.

Our Accelerated Building Re-occupancy (ABR) Program is a public-private partnership between a building owner, local building officials, and a pre-designated team of structural engineers authorized to conduct post-disaster inspections satisfying the jurisdiction's accepted standards and procedures. We create building-specific post-disaster inspection plans—resulting in a faster, safer, and more orderly return to operations. ABR programs promote occupants’ safety, reduce business interruption, and supports community resilience.

Structural Focus and its founder David Cocke, SE (a nationally recognized expert in post-disaster business resiliency and continuity) developed the first ABR program in Southern California, in partnership with DreamWorks Animation and the City of Glendale. We have also implemented ABR programs for many of the region's most recognizable entities, including Disney Studios, Paramount Studios, Sony Pictures Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, and The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.

Our ABR work begins long before a disaster occurs. We inventory and prioritize your buildings, document baseline conditions, identify structural vulnerabilities, and establish the inspection protocols, access routes, and communication plans your team will rely on from hour one.

When a disaster occurs, we mobilize immediately, coordinate with your facilities team and the local jurisdiction, and work through your priority list to assess and document every building. Our engineers are credentialed Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Disaster Emergency Workers, trained to apply ATC-20 evaluation methods under emergency conditions and to make the rapid, confident judgments that post-disaster tagging requires.
